ಠ_ಠ Family member who hasn’t spoken to me in years reaching out just to tell me how to vote

Post image
• Upvotes

I moved away a little over three years ago to move in with my partner, which essentially outed me to my whole family, and this is the one and only time that this relative has reached out to me since I moved. When I’m doing my peaceful morning routine and trying not to stress out about the real world. Thanks 🙃

Edit: Just to clarify, I’m not actually going to be messaging her back. Her mind can’t be changed at this point and I’ve learned not to take the bait.

Funny Sam Altman: “Local inference is a terrible allocation of scarce resources”

Sam Altman: “Local inference is a terrible allocation of scarce resources.

A lot of people want local inference, and somehow they assume that the problem is solved now because we have open-source models, we're going to be able to run them on our computers, and so we're not going to need all the stuff in the data centre

but from a global allocation perspective, actually it's quite terrible to have everybody, like, have a bunch of the world's limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer and being used five percent of the time

you want maximum utilisation in the cloud if you're trying to deal with this very supply-constrained environment,

somehow many people's intuition is the opposite of that”

Is a mass world event about to happen?

3.7k Upvotes

Countries around the world spanning continents telling their citizens to be prepared with supplies for three days in case of emergency. The US for the first time since the Korean War, having its soldiers learn digging mass graves in a battlefield and telling them to be prepared in case they have to go off grid for 90 days without supplies coming in. Is this cause to actually prepare oneself?

TIL Cow tipping, the purported activity of sneaking up on any unsuspecting or sleeping upright cow and pushing it over for entertainment, is considered an urban legend. Estimates suggest it would take 4-14 people to achieve this.

2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6. My dream car. Deemed as a total loss. 19 months until payments are complete. Now I get to take out a whole new loan, right after taking a mortgage.

I was on my way to pick up retainers from my orthodontist…. And they didn’t even fit.
