Nostalgia From 1985 to 1995 or so, what were your top-ten favorite media franchises that were aimed at our age group? (Something that had some combination of toys, cartoons, movies, and video games.)

• Upvotes

I have recently been sorting through a bin of toys and toy parts that has been in my parents’ attic for thirty years. What a time capsule! It reminds me of how much fun it was to be a kid in the 80s and 90s.

Discussion A fashion difference I've noticed since we were younger

• Upvotes

I've noticed nothing is really out of style nowadays. Everything seems to be simultaneously in style. I'm sure internet and social media are the main reason for this but when I was young there were definitely things that were in and out of style, even in my small southern city. Like if you were a teenager still dressing like it was 1988 in 1998 it wasn't cool, at all. You would have looked like someone whose clothes were all hand me downs from your older siblings because your family couldn't afford new clothes. And kids could be brutal about it.

But if someone dresses like 2016 now I don't think anyone notices or cares, which is great. I also don't think there's nearly as much of a difference between fashion from 2016 to now compared to 1988 to 1998, which is probably a whole separate conversation. Anyways I think this is a GOOD change. What do you think?

Has a cameo in the new Scrubs 🤯 somehow recognized him immediately despite it being years since I’ve seen Lost Boys and him aging quite a bit (40ish years)

I honestly only saw this once when I was home sick one day in middle school. I remember thinking it was badass. After watching the trailer I'm not so sure twelve year old me had a very refined cinematic palate.

Alright fellow sports fans & especially Little Leaguers. How many of you thought this commercial was like finding the Holy Grail to get you to the big leagues?

We don’t even know what Tom Emanski looks like but Crime Dog supported him & “back-to back-to back AAU national championships”?!?!

This commercial seemed to be ubiquitous if you were watching sports on your TV.

The spell spread through the cemetery like a sickness. Above, the terrible moon drew closer as the earth began to tremble. Then came the scratching beneath the stones. One by one, the graves opened, and an army of the dead rose to greet the end of the world.

If the date is correct, I’m 3 and a half here. If my mom were alive I’d be asking her what she was going for here, I miss her so much.

Happy Halloween!👻

Friday the 13th is the only iconic horror franchise without a single great entry

Last night, I took my son to a viewing of A Nightmare on Elm Street. He thought it was okay. Tonight, we are watching Halloween. I think most audiences would consider both movies to be quite good as horror films and also just good movies from a filmmaking standpoint. Usually the first entry for each franchise is considered the best, or its signature film. Exorcist, Poltergeist, Scream. Some have more than one great film--Exorcist III, Nightmare 3: Dream Warriors.

Anyway, this got me thinking: is there any Friday the 13th movie that average moviegoers would consider great? Would there be any movie that I would recommend for newcomers, like my son, to the genre? And I can't think of one. I guess part IV comes the closest, but even that one is…just okay. Does Friday the 13th have a signature film? And are there any other horror franchises that don't have a single great film in its catalog? I'm just wondering what my fellow Xennials think. Am I totally off on this?

Discussion Pokémon - for millennials and younger?

Fellow xennials - what are your Pokémon feelings? Could this be a US/Canada line been xennials and millennials?

‘79 here and I remember feeling like Pokémon was too young for me by the time it was broadcast in the states - even though I’d been exposed to Japanese animation in the early 80s. I have younger friends that still collect and they have an encyclopedic knowledge of Pokémon. I can do that with GI Joe and Transformers.

Am I an outlier? Or is this a true millennial and younger thing?

I was randomly remembering this game on Nintendo. Remember how freakishly hard it was? Remember running around without armor in your underwear? Did anyone ever get past that first stage? Halloween has me thinking about this game.

Nostalgia Songs again- possibly women only (I am not excusing men but when I finish it will make more sense)

On my Apple Music I have two sets songs from Jewel’s, ‘Pieces of You’ album. I have never found a traditional relationship or been with a single person who seemed to understand my need to sing.

I’m saying this all because I just played and passionately sang (as expected) both ‘Foolish Games’ and ‘Don’t’ (which I suspect might hit more hearts). I can never seem to deviate out of these emotionally intelligent songs that Jewel wrote.

I listened to and re-listened to both songs and I was transported back to a younger time. “Don’t” is not a widely loved song but I know it had it’s audience 👏

I hope I have some girlie’s hearts full and also nighttime singers who love both of these songs.

I never post about anything but music. I truly feel like we grew up loving some of the most heart-wrenching songs and best music to relate to our upbringing that was ever written.

Please listen to both again my Xennial friends, It transports you to another time 🥹🥹🥲🥲
